Synopsis

Founded in 2001, the Lynbrook Robotics Club is a team that participates in the annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. In 2010, I migrated their website to WordPress, changed the design, and created a custom events system. Coupled with the dedication of the team, the website helps express Lynbrook Robotics’ mission.

Details

In order to keep the website current, I employed the use of announcements—upcoming events that expire at a designed time in the future—and news—long-term data that documents the team. Together, the two provide an efficient way to express information to the students and parents. Indeed, when integrated with WordPress, they work well together to display short and long-term data.

Furthermore, the club has many activities throughout the school year. In order to keep their members informed, I created a custom event management system. Not only are officers of the team able to post activities, but members, each having their own login information, are able to sign up for these as well. To take it a step further, custom e-mail aliases are dynamically created for each event and spreadsheets with the attendees’ contact information are automatically generated, making it easy to communicate to those who need the information. Taken as a whole, this enables the website to have a prominent role in the team.
