Lynbrook Speech and Debate

Synopsis

The Lynbrook Speech and Debate website, serving hundreds of high school students, received a complete makeover in 2009. Applying HTML, JavaScript, PHP, and a bit of CSS, I revamped the website, making it more contemporary. Most importantly, I wrote a custom backend that provides extensive control.

Details

First and foremost, the website has to deal with presenting information while also allowing for discussion from the large student base. To accomplish this, I integrated a forum with the design, enabling each member to participate in conversations while simultaneously finding articles on the front page that are delivered directly via forum posts.

Equally important, the website has to manage the many people that are part of the Lynbrook Speech and Debate club. As a result, I crafted a custom registration system for students to view/edit their profile, sign up for tournaments, post on the forums, and make payments online. In terms of the administration, I accounted for mass transactions, financial reports, membership statistics, tournament additions, and club-wide e-mailing, making the website a vital part of the team.
